Did you or someone you care about take Xarelto?

September 18, 2014

Were there complications due to the prescription of the blood thinning drug that has caused irreversible bleeding in patients across the country?

If so, you need to speak with a lawyer that understands how these product liability cases work and what you need to do to protect yourself.

Why would anyone take Xarelto if it is a bad drug?

Xarelto was heralded as the next great blood thinner.  In 2013, Xarelto sales grewexponentially.  This medication was developed by Bayer Pharmaceutics (makers of the original aspirin) and Janseen Pharmaceuticals.

Blood thinners are commonly used to prevent dangerous blood clots and obstruction of blood flow to vital organs.  Older blood thinners can be a hassle to patients because they required close blood monitoring and testing to be done by a physician, avoiding vitamin K, quitting smoking (a good idea nonetheless), and avoiding contact sports due to the risk of excessive bleeding.

The Institute for Safe Medicine Practices has identified hundreds of adverse side effects and new reports put the numbers in the thousands.  Multiple sources are reporting numerous deaths as a result of this drug that is now believed by many to be a very bad drug.

The Food and Drug Administration approved Xarelto for patients who have had knee or hip replacement surgery to reduce the risk of clotting and stroke.  Some patients were probably given a defective DePuy hip and been given a dangerous drug to aid in recovery.

Patients at risk for stroke or pulmonary embolism.

Dangers of taking Xarelto

The dangers of taking Xarelto and its generic form are many and severe.  Uncontrolled and incurable internal bleeding causes numerous problems, including death.  The body’s major organs shut down blood flow when there is bleeding near the brain, lungs, and kidneys.  When blood flow is interupted, this causes organs to shut down as well and this normally results in death.

In cases where the patient survives the uncontrolled and incurable internal bleeding, other problematic symptoms can still appear, such as abnormal liver function, bruising, dizziness, edema, hemorrhages of the eye, stomach issues, headaches or migraines, loss of blood pressure (hypotension), muscle soreness, nose bleeds, increased heartbeat, bleeding of the rectum, nausea and vomiting

There is no stopping the damage caused by Xarelto

Perhaps the most daunting problem with Xarelto is that the damage done cannot be undone.  Older anti-coagulants (blood thinners) could be removed from the body or treated with a neutralizing agent or antidote.  This is not the case with Xarelto.  It begs the question “Why did no one consider the risks?”

As a result of these issues, Hodges Trial Lawyers, P.C. is investigating cases involving family members who have lost a loved one due to uncontrolled bleeding and need help and guidance.
