What is Mediation and Why Use It?

Mediation is a process where an impartial third person (the Mediator) helps people to negotiate with one another to resolve their outstanding issues. It can be used for parenting, divorce and post-divorce issues. Mediation can have advantages that litigation does not. Some of the advantages to mediation are:

· It is confidential and private;
· It is voluntary;
· It can cost significantly less than a trial;
· The parties can settle their disputes promptly and keep control over the outcomes and solutions, and;
· Parties are more likely to comply with an agreement that is voluntary and meets their needs
