Arizona Files First State Lawsuit Over GM Recalls

November 29, 2014

Arizona is the first state to file suit against General Motors Co over a delayed recall which has, according to the lawsuit, put the public at risk. The lawsuit alleges that General Motors concealed safety risks and delayed the recall of their vehicles which had faulty ignition switches. The lawsuit seeks civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation. If the court rules in favor of the state, General Motors could see a penalty of billions of dollars for the hundreds of thousands of affected vehicles. The recalls have included 60 serious defects in the cars, which have totaled 27 million.
