FAQ
If you have been injured by someone else, there are several things you should do and several you certainly shouldn't do.
What to do if you've been injured:
- Be courteous and cooperative with the investigating officer
- Get the other driver's name, address, phone number and insurance information
- Get all witnesses' names, addresses, and phone numbers
- When possible, take photographs or videos of vehicles, visible injuries, and the scene of the incident
- Tell your doctors, chiropractors, and physical therapists all of the places you are having pain
- Comply with doctor's orders and follow through with treatment
- Check insurance coverage for medical and wage loss benefits
- Try to return to normal activities as soon as possible
- Document everything
What not to do:
- Sign anything without knowing your rights
- Fail to report an incident if anyone may be injured, or if the damage to either vehicle is significant
- Give a recorded statement without getting some good legal advice first (even honest people can be hurt by recorded statements)
- Be intimidated by the other driver or insurance company (but be cordial to the adjuster if possible)
- Refuse medical attention if you or someone else is hurt
- "Over-do-it" while you are recovering from your injuries
- Exaggerate the extent or nature of your injuries
