Choosing the Best Lawyer

Car Turn Signal

My granddaddy used to say the only thing a blinker meant for sure was that the taillight bulb worked. I didn’t realize it, but he was teaching me not to assume that just because the blinker was on that the driver would turn.

Hiring a lawyer only because you see him or her on a billboard is assuming that that lawyer is qualified. All a billboard proves is the last month’s billboard invoice is paid. Don’t trust billboards and blinkers, you might end up with a mess on your hands.

If you trust that the driver is front of you is going to turn just because the blinker is on, you might get hurt in a wreck. If you trust that a lawyer will do a good job because of a billboard, you might find yourself stuck without the help you need.

Make sure you hire based on qualifications, experience, and results, not billboards.

What is a Facet Joint Injury?

Facet joints are located in your spine.  These joints are contain nerves that come out of your spinal cord and flow through said joint on the way to other parts of your body.  Facet joints contain cartilage which acts almost like a cushion or lubricating device that prevents your vertebrae from grinding on each other.  A facet joint injury can be from trauma, such a car accident, or from wear and tear.  When the cartilage wears out, the joint becomes arthritic.  Sometimes, a facet joint injury occurs in a car wreck because the joints were already worn and the wreck finishes it off.  It is always important to explain to your doctor the full and complete history of your injury, so that he or she can provide the best treatment.  Alabama law provides that an injury that is aggravated in a wreck is, in fact, related to the wreck.  So clarifying to your doctor when the pain in whatever area of your body began is very important.  Do not assume your doctor has “seen it all before.:  Be very candid and forthright with you doctor about where you hurt, how bad it is, and when it began.

Dangers of texting and driving

Dangers of Text and Driving

A recent study found that almost 90% of teenagers admit to texting and driving even though they know it is dangerous. Texting draws the driver’s focus away from the road and puts them and other drivers in danger. When a driver is texting, he or she is less likely to be aware of surroundings, whether on the highway or in a neighborhood.

In Alabama, it is strictly prohibited to use a cell phone to send a text message, email, or other written form of communication while behind the wheel of a moving car. To make a phone call, a driver must be using a hands-free device. The law excludes “reading, selecting or entering a telephone number or name in a cell or wireless telephone or communication device for the purpose of making a telephone call.” If you have any confusion about what is permitted and what is not, it is better to wait until you reach your destination.

If you are caught texting and driving, you will be charged $25 for the first offense, $50 for the second, and $75 for the third. You will also receive 2 points on your driver’s license for the offense.
